چکیده

The self-consistent phonon (SCP) theory is used to study the dynamics of monolayers of xenon, krypton, and methane adsorbed on graphite. Only the ~3Xv 3 sohd phase is considered. It is shown that the phonon energies of the Xe monolayers are very similar to those of their Soating counterparts, while the interaction of the Kr and CH4 monolayers vnth the graphite signNcantly a8ects the phonon dispersion curves. The gap in the phonon dispersion curves at the center of the Brillouin zone is computed as a function of temperature. At a critical temperature, the gap goes spontaneously to zero and a transition from a locked-in commensurate phase to a floating phase takes place. This transition appears to describe the commensurate to Boating transition in CH&

Self Diffusion and Binary Maxwell-Stefan Diffusion in Simple Fluids with the Green-Kubo Method

Self diffusion coefficients and binary Maxwell-Stefan diffusion coefficients were determined by equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations with the Green-Kubo method. The study covers five pure fluids: neon, argon, krypton, xenon, and methane and three binary mixtures: argon+krypton, argon+xenon, and krypton+xenon. The fluids are modeled by spherical Lennard-Jones pair-potentials, with paramete...

A molecular simulation study of shear and bulk viscosity and thermal conductivity of simple real fluids

Shear and bulk viscosity and thermal conductivity for argon, krypton, xenon, and methane and the binary mixtures argon+krypton and argon+methane were determined by equilibrium molecular dynamics with the Green-Kubo method. The fluids were modeled by spherical Lennard-Jones pair-potentials with parameters adjusted to experimental vapor liquid-equilibria data alone. Good agreement between the pre...

Theory and Observation of Displacement Phenomena in Coadsorbed Films

Displacement refers to a surprising phenomenon observed in a number of adsorption systems. At low temperatures, some relatively inert gases, such as krypton (Kr) or methane (CH4), are found to displace molecules from preadsorbed monolayer films of a more condensable species, such as carbon tetrachloride (CCl4), from a graphite substrate. We present a simple thermodynamic model to explain displa...

Xenon and krypton separation in a chromatographic column packed with granulated nano NaY zeolite

In order to investigate the gas separation ability of a column packed with nanozeolitic material, nano NaY zeolite was synthesized and granulated. These uniform granules packed in a chromatographic column were utilized for separation of Xe and Kr under various operating conditions. With regards to the response peaks obtained from trace injections of Xe and Kr into the column, the first and seco...

Predicted Effects of Confinement on the Melting Transition in Krypton-Argon Adlayers

We report the results of (N,ρ,T) Molecular-Dynamics computer simulations of krypton-argon mixtures physisorbed between two graphite sheets. Three novel aspects of the system's behavior emerge from this study. To begin with, new high-temperature commensurate solid phases for both argon and krypton as a result of confinement are predicted, as well as a family of confinement-induced solid-liquid p...
